Frequently asked questions

Explore answers to some of our most common questions below.
Still can’t find what you need? Contact us.

What insurance plans are in network for care with Zócalo Health?

We’re in network with Blue Shield of California’s PPO plan and will be adding other plans soon.

How do I know if you take my insurance plan?

To check if your plan works with Zócalo Health, go to our Join Page. Once you submit, the Zócalo team will verify your eligibility and get back to you as soon as possible.

If you still have questions, email hello@zocalo.health

Do I have to have insurance to use Zócalo Health?

If you do not have insurance coverage or lose your current coverage, you will have the option to pay our transparent and affordable membership fees or a one time visit, which can be found here.

Where is Zócalo Health located?

Zócalo Health is a virtual only primary care provider and urgent care clinic. We do not currently have any physical locations, but can provide virtual services anywhere in the state of California.

To make Zócalo Health my primary care provider, are there any specific steps I should take?

No. You won’t need to provide any documentation to see a doctor or use our services.

What is included in my membership if I use insurance?

Zócalo Health patients using insurance have access to visits with our all bilingual team of doctors, and to a promotora de salud. We also help to find discounted labs and medication prices, when available.

I’m not sure how to use my insurance, can you help me?

At Zocalo Health, you have the option to utilize your insurance coverage for healthcare services, and our dedicated promotora de salud will assist you in understanding your insurance coverage, so that you can avoid unexpected bills and maximize your benefits.

What is my copay?

Your copay will depend on what plan you have, but don’t worry! Our promotora de salud will make sure you understand your copay upfront so you are never surprised by unexpected bills.

How will my insurance be billed?

After your visit, Zócalo Health will submit claims for services rendered to your insurance plan. When your insurance has processed the claim, you may receive an Explanation of Benefits (EOB), telling you what services were billed, what amount was covered by the insurer, and what balance, if any, you owe.

How will I be billed after my insurance processes?

Zócalo Health will let you know how much you owe before you visit. Once you have completed your visit, we will send you a secure payment link to pay for what was not covered by your insurance.

My current insurance isn’t accepted, can I still use Zócalo Health?

If your current insurance coverage isn't accepted, you still have the option to purchase a membership directly. But don't worry, Zócalo Health is working on expanding coverage to include other insurers so care is more accessible to you!

Can I give Zócalo Health membership as a gift?

At this time, we’re not set up for gift memberships. But we encourage you to share our website with your friend or family member for more information.

Who is eligible to become a Zócalo member?

Anyone who lives in Washington, Texas, or California is eligible to sign up.

Can I cancel my subscription at any time?

You can cancel your Zócalo Health subscription at any time by emailing hello@zocalo.health. The cancellation will take effect immediately and you will not be charged for the following month’s subscription fee. If you have not used any services in the current month, you may be eligible for a refund of the current month's fee.

If after canceling your subscription you wish to subscribe again, there will be a 6-month waiting period for a new subscription. However, you can book a one-time visit for $50/visit during that time.

If you have purchased an annual plan, you are eligible for a full refund within 30 days of initial purchase. For refund requests 30+ days after purchase, you will be eligible for a pro-rated refund.

"The appointment scheduling was quick and easy! I saw appointment options outside of the regular 9-5 schedule and Dr. Martinez had a wonderful virtual bedside manner. She gave me really great advice!"

Why Zócalo

¡Juntos por tu salud!

As children, our founders, Erik Cardenas and Mariza Hardin, each witnessed the lack of access to quality health care in their comunidades — and it inspired them to build a better way. A way that’s by Latinos, for Latinos. A way that tells our stories and celebrates our culture. A way that combines spiritual practices with modern medicine and the technology of today.
